Can I get a gun permit?
Permits to
purchase firearms and permits to carry them in public are two
separate applications. Permits to purchase firearms for Spring Lake
Park residents can be obtained at the Police Department.
Applications may take from 10 days to 3 weeks to complete.
Permits to carry firearms are processed through the County
Sheriff’s Department in which you live. Please contact them directly
for additional information.

Can you unlock my car?
Generally no. Vehicle manufacturers have changed the mechanisms inside vehicle doors by adding power window and power door-lock options more often in addition to side panel air bags. Inserting tools can cause damage to a vehicle and can pose a risk of injury to an officer attempting to unlock the door. The only circumstances under which we attempt to unlock vehicles are when a child or pet is locked inside. There are several companies listed in the yellow pages that specialize in opening locked vehicles.

When should we call 911?
We
hear this question often when out greeting residents during National
Night Out. 911 should be used whenever you would like to speak with
or see an officer. When you first think, “I wonder if I should
call the police?” -it’s time to call. Often if residents
wait, situations can deteriorate and become all the more serious. We
would much rather respond to a scene and find nothing wrong than to
respond and find a situation out of control or dangerous. For
follow-up questions regarding an on-going case, to contact specific
officers or to address administrative business please contact our
office at 763 792-7200.
