Do I Need an Electrical Permit?
The state of Minnesota Board of Electricity administers all electrical codes and enforcements within the City of Spring Lake Park. You can link to the State Board website here for more information. Citizens of Spring Lake Park can also obtain an electrical permit application at the Spring Lake Park City Hall front counter for a fee of $1.50. All completed electrical permit applications must be submitted to the Minnesota State Board of Electricity for process and review.
Can I do my Own Work?
Owner-occupants of a single family residence may do most of their work; however, all electrical work must be done by a licensed, bonded and insured electrical contractor and/or their employees.
If you choose to hire a contractor to work on your project, you should carefully review their references and check with the Minnesota Department of Commerce to be sure that the contractor is licensed, bonded and insured.
You can find out if your project requires a building permit by contacting the Code Enforcement Department at 763-792-7212 or Barry Brainard , Building Official.
Completed applications may be submitted to the Code Enforcement Department by mail, fax, or by the front City Hall counter Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. Questions regarding your code questions are taken Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. With our limited staff, we ask that you please be patient and provide leeway with the return of your phone calls regarding code questions as our inspectors are frequently out in the field conducting inspections.
